After GCSEs. A paid job with training for young people, usually aged 16 to 21. Afterwards you can move on to a full apprenticeship or a job in the same area.

Entry requirements
- With GCSEs: No specific subjects required. Typical: No set grades needed; designed as a first job and stepping stone for young people. You'll keep working on English and maths if needed.
Careers it leads to
- Carpenter or joiner: Builds and fits timber structures, from roofs and floors to doors, stairs and kitchens.
- Bricklayer: Builds walls, homes and other structures from bricks, blocks and stone.
- Plasterer: Finishes walls and ceilings, from smooth plaster to decorative mouldings.
